Beautiful flowers have a pleasant fragrance while also providing health benefits. Lavender blossoms create aroma that causes a soothing feeling for individuals. Gardeners often dry lavender to use during winter months to induce sleep. The essential oils in lavender and other plants add scent to lotions, soaps and candles. Several attractive flowering plants have additional health and beauty uses. Various parts of many flowering plants including leaves, stems, petals and buds are edible in salads as a raw ingredient. Alternatively, oils from blossoming plants can add flavor to cooked recipes.

Bergamot and Viola

Viola blooms in vivid colors of blue and yellow are helpful for treating skin conditions such as eczema, varicose veins and acne. The petals of this plant make a hot beverage that is high in vitamins C and A. Oil pressed from the viola plant tastes similar to vanilla extract. Because of the high cost of fresh vanilla, viola is a thrifty alternative while cooking. A flowering plant that offers antiseptic qualities is the bright orange bergamot. The petals create a poultice to reduce infection in small wounds. In addition, a mouth rinse with bergamot oil is helpful for eliminating gum disease and sore throats.

Green girls gotta stick together and that means talking about all the ways we can have a little green in our lives.

Whether you are trying to keep a green home by getting your natural gas through places like New York Natural Gas Rates or insisting on green cleaning products, you have to live green as much as possible – not just for you, but the environment as well. Being a green girl also means you have to be aware of the environmental ramifications that can arise whenever you put on make-up or wash your hair.

It’s true! Each and every day we purchase beauty products and sometimes we aren’t really sure what we are buying. While not a typical practice anymore, you still want to be on the lookout for products that test on animals. Another thing you want to be careful of is the ingredients in some of these products – make sure that they aren’t harmful to the environment.

And if you are totally paranoid and unsure if you can trust the store-bought products there are a few household solutions that can help you look great, too. Like, did you know that lemon juice can be used to help lighten your hair? It’s true and if you aren’t sure what brand to trust in the store there are tons of green beauty sites online with helpful, household tips like these.

As a green girl, you gotta stay green but that doesn’t mean you can’t look good while doing it.

We have been encouraged to recycle for several years now. the more you do it, the easier it gets. You may have curbside pick up of sorted items, or you may have single stream recycling pick up. Many communities have consumers sort their recyclables by rules set by the recyclable buyers.

Your public works department will have lists of approved recyclables available for your specific locale, and bins to put items in. It is good manners as well as good sense to rinse out food containers. If you can, flatten cans and boxes so that more fits in a smaller space. Your community may not recycle all types of plastics, for instance we have a bin for milk jugs, a bin for 1 plastic and a bin for 2. Check the bottom of the plastic item for a triangle with a number so that you will know for sure. If required, sort glass by colors. Abide by posted restrictions. Put newspapers in one place, glossies in another.

Please, if you go to the trouble to recycle, take the items out of the plastic bags!! This is a contaminant in as much as 10 of recycled materials. Be a good neighbor and follow the rules.

As women, we are expected to be more nurturing and care more about the condition of our planet than the other sex. It’s a gross generalization, but like it or not, women are frequently expected to take the lead in living a greener lifestyle. One of the pastimes that fit this stereotype is gardening. Gardening is considered the idle hobby of the woman who’s quietly raised her kids and now has extra time to care for a garden. The truth is, many busy, active people can gain great benefit from gardening, and support the environment as well.

Plants and flowers are good for the environment and good for the human race. Plants absorb harmful carbon monoxide and give off plenty of life-giving oxygen. A well-tended garden with a plentiful variety of flowering plants looks and feels good to anyone who admires nature and loves beautiful things. Instead of buying flowers, herbs and vegetables, the mass production of these plants consumes the earth’s natural resources; a person can use these plants to supplement their lifestyle by growing them in their backyard. Growing flowers and plants sets a great example to our kids of how to live a more natural, greener lifestyle.

There are several ways that you can conserve energy and keep more money in your wallet while doing so. Some of the simplest ways to do this are ideas that some may not think about.
One way to conserve energy is with your washing machine. You can save about 150 pounds of CO2 for gas water heaters and 500 pounds for electric heaters per year by turning the water setting to either cold or warm instead of hot.
Keep the rooms in your house to a comfortable setting instead of over cooling or overheating them. In the summer, keep your thermostat set for 78 degrees, and in the winter, set it to 68 degrees. By keeping your thermostat set to these temperatures, you can reduce CO2 emissions and keep you electric bill lowered. Also, on windy, cooler days, try opening up the windows for a natural cooling breeze.
Replace all your old appliances for Energy Star appliances. These energy efficient items are made to save on you energy bill, while still efficiently completing it’s task. Refrigerators, freezers, dryers, washers, air conditioners, and dishwashers are just some of the many Energy Star appliances you can find.
Finally, ne of the simplest ways to save is to turn off all appliances when you are not using them. Make sure to turn all the lights off when leaving a room, and turn off all electrical devices, such as the t.v., when you go to bed.

Consumption of nonrenewable energy sources has a huge impact on our environment. Establishing good energy conservation habits today, will help to provide a healthier environment for our children.

Integrating energy conservation habits into our daily routine does not have to be difficult. We can start with small steps, like turning lights off, and monitoring heating and cooling. Information and conservation advice is widely available today, and is easily found on line.

Energy conservation not only improves the environment, but can also boost, or at least help to maintain our bank balances by significantly reducing our utility bills.Check out this link here. Considering the recessionary times that we are living in today, any relief from financial burden would be a relief to most of us.

Once we’ve mastered the lights, heating, and cooling conservation, we are ready to take more significant steps toward the preservation of our environment. Did you know that your microwave, toaster, cell phone charger, hair dryer, and all electrical appliances and gadgets continue to consume energy when they are turned off? You can conserve energy and money by simply unplugging those gadgets when not in use.

Saving the environment by saving energy is a matter of learning to view energy conservation as a habit, not a hobby.
